Clinical and Dispensing Audiologist
Elizabeth “Beth” Karlsen obtained her undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo and her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Kansas (MA 1974; Ph.D. 1978). She worked at the University of Kansas Medical Center ENT Department, where she specialized in auditory and vestibular assessment, from 1974 until “retiring” in 2004. After working part time in various clinics in Kansas City she returned to full-time work at the Head & Neck Surgical Associates in November of 2014.
Beth’s areas of interest include Diagnostic Audiology, Amplification and Hearing Loss Prevention. She began dispensing hearing aids in 1974 and now, as an individual with hearing loss and hearing aids herself, strives to help her patients cope with hearing loss and to maximize their communication skills with appropriate use of current technology in hearing aids and assistive listening devices.
Beth can usually be found on weekends doing cat/kitten adoptions of her feline foster fur babies with the Heart of America Humane Society where she has been a volunteer for over ten years.
