Head and Neck Surgical Associates is the only private practice in the Kansas City area with surgeons certified to perform surgery using Transoral Robotic Surgery (TORS) with the da Vinci® Robot.

The robotic system allows the surgeon to perform minimally invasive surgery with a great level of precision. It can be used to remove certain benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck and for advanced treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.

This cutting-edge procedure is perhaps the most effective minimally invasive surgical treatment for diseases of the head and neck available today. There are significant advantages to robotic surgery over traditional surgical approaches and when compared to other surgical approaches, TORS may offer the patient numerous potential benefits, including:

• No visible scarring or disfigurement
• Low rate of complications
• Short length of stay
• Fast recovery, return to normal speech and swallowing

How it Works
During the surgery, the surgeon will sit at a control console a short distance from the patient and operating table. They will precisely control the motion of the surgical instruments using two hand-and-finger control devices. The console display will show a magnified, 3-D view of the intended surgical area, which enables the surgeon to visualize the procedure in greater detail than laparoscopic surgery.

Both Drs. David Rudman and Bradley Seaman are certified to perform TORS with the da Vinci robot.
